What to do in the last weeks of pregnancy... especially if you are anxious about being past your due date.
As you approach your "due date", you are likely feeling the pressure to get the baby out, anxiously awaiting the moment you get to meet your baby, and feeling anxious to move through the experience of labour.
As you sit in one of the most excruciating waiting games, here are a few things you can do to ease some of the anxiety and just enjoy the final weeks of pregnancy…
Add a few weeks to your expected timeline
Due dates are fairly arbitrary and it can be really easy to get on "baby watch" the minute you get to 38 weeks. So if you can tell yourself it'll be closer to 42 or 43 weeks, much of the anxiety of waiting for labour every single day can subside and you can lean in to being pregnant a little longer.
Fill your schedule
Make a list of projects you want to complete, schedule dates or outings with friends and family, think of something you've always wanted to do, but didn't have time for. If you can keep yourself busy with meaningful tasks, you turn a time of stagnation and madness into a really enjoyable season of life!
Visualize
One of the best ways to wait for baby is to do some extra prep for labour. When you start to think. "I have to get this baby out!", instead, close your eyes and imagine your baby getting into position. Imagine your body opening up to allow your baby to pass through. Imagine the sensations and say, "I am ready to meet my baby when they are ready to be here."
Rest
You may have it in your mind that postpartum will be this wonderful moment of rest, and it can be. But it is still a lot of work having a newborn by your side. Take these last few weeks into of pregnancy to pour yourself and really do some mind numbing resting.
Your baby will be here when they are ready.
