6 Breastfeeding myths - There is so much misinformation floating around about breastfeeding. If you want the most accurate information regarding infant feeding / breastfeeding always consult an IBCLC.

In addition, just because something worked for someone else, doesn't necessarily mean that's the best option for you. Every mother / baby dyad is unique and should be treated as such.


  1. MYTH - Pumping is a good indicator of overall breast milk supply. FACT -

  2. MYTH - Antibiotics are always necessary to treat mastitis. FACT - The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine's most up to date protocol regarding the treatment of mastitis states that antibiotics are *not* always necessary and that certain types of mastitis may resolve by doing other things.

  3. MYTH - Breast milk has no nutritional

  4. MYTH - Nursing frequently means baby isn't getting enough. FACT -

  5. MYTH - The flanges that come with your breast pump are always the right size for you. FACT - The flanges that come with most breast pumps tend to be your "standard" 24 or 27mm.

  6. MYTH - Cracking and/or bleeding nipples are normal. FACT -
