1.HYDRATION
Whether it’s is a big ol water bottle or electrolyte beverages, staying hydrated will help from your milk supply to your digestion.
Keeping one close at all times because you never know when you will be stuck under a baby during cluster feeding.
2. PROTEINS
Your appetite will increase dramatically while feeding your baby, make sure you are getting good proteins while snacking and meals. This influences your milk content for babies development and ensures your own body gets the support it needs during postpartum. Things like nuts, beans, greek yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese etc.
3. LAYERING
You will find out very fast if you do not have the proper clothing for chest feeding. From proper nursing bras with no underwire to specialty tops like the Naked Tank will allow you to feel confident in feeding your child without exposing your tummy.
4. SUPPORT
Support can look different in every dynamic but when a partner and/or family are educated in the benefits of breastmilk it is so helpful.
Support can also look like a mom group, weekly clinic drop ins, a doula and even a trusted facebook group. If you have any issues, please contact a professionally trained lactation consultant.
5. EDUCATION
Remember that chest feeding is a skill, not only for baby but also for yourself and it can take time. Educating yourself and your partner before baby arrives can help you be confident in your abilities from day 1 to day 1000.
Taking online or in person classes or even sitting down with a friend. Every feeding journey is unique and different.
